When it comes to stationery, tape is a commonly used item that many people rely on. However, one recurring issue with traditional transparent tape is the difficulty in finding the cut. Recognizing this problem, designer Xizi Wang drew inspiration from gradients to create a unique solution - the Gradient Ramp tape.
The Gradient Ramp tape stands out from its counterparts with its vibrant colors. What sets it apart is not just its appearance, but its functionality. Made with a special gradient film, the tape creates a noticeable color difference at the cut after use. This feature allows users to easily locate the tape cut, making it more convenient and user-friendly.
The realization of the Gradient Ramp tape involves the use of a PVC film-based material that is free from plasticizers. This material offers excellent low temperature resistance, good initial viscosity, and easy punching and cutting molding, ensuring a high-quality product.
With dimensions of 10cm in length, 10cm in width, and 1.5cm in height, the Gradient Ramp tape is designed to meet the standard specifications of tape rolls, making it compatible with existing dispensers and storage solutions.
The design team behind the Gradient Ramp tape consisted of design leader Jing Peng and designer Xinzhou Zhang. Together, they worked on overcoming the challenges associated with the complex internal structure of the tape, ensuring a high machining qualification rate.
Using the Gradient Ramp tape is a straightforward process. Users simply need to pick up the tape, look for areas where the color difference is most pronounced, use the tape as needed, and witness the tape incision and tape itself produce an obvious color difference. This innovative feature simplifies future usage, eliminating the frustration of searching for the tape cut.
The development of the Gradient Ramp tape took place from September 2020 to February 2021 in Milan, where it was subsequently exhibited in China. The project was driven by the observation of a subtle problem in everyday tape usage, prompting the designers to create a solution that enhances user experience.
Recognizing the potential of the tape market, which saw a significant increase in production over the past decade, the Gradient Ramp tape offers a promising solution to address common pain points. Its unique design and functionality make it a standout product in the industry.
The Gradient Ramp tape has gained recognition for its innovative approach and practicality. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Art and Stationery Supplies Design category in 2021. This prestigious award honors designs that meet professional and industrial requirements, integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics to create a better world.
With its convenient and user-friendly design, the Gradient Ramp tape revolutionizes the way we use tape, providing a simple yet effective solution to the age-old problem of finding the tape cut.
